The author explained the practical aspects of complying with functional safety standards. There are many certified functional safety professionals from many organizations who become subject matter experts and apply the standards and interpret the clauses out of context. Very good book for those already familiar with the functional safety standards.

As the author states in the preface that he "did toy with the idea of calling it 'Every Engineer's SECOND Book of Functional Safety". This book does assume a working knowledge of the functional safety standards. With that in mind, it's a very good book.
